Welcome to Northwestern Stables, Inc. Our programs for childrenĀ and adults include year-round lessons, summer day camp, an Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) team for junior high and high school riders, and popular community events.
Northwestern Racehorse Restarts, which was launched in 2022, is designed to give retiring Thoroughbred racehorses a chance for a great life. In partnership with Turning for Home, a non-profit that has helped place thousands of thoroughbreds from Parx racetrack in Philadelphia, Northwestern is taking on the critical role of rehabilitating, retraining, and rehoming the horses.
The Stable’s historical significance in the Wissahickon dates back to 1929. Located at the north end of Forbidden Drive in beautiful Fairmount Park, the facility is owned by the City of Philadelphia but operated by Northwestern Stables, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
We partner with mushroom growers in Pennsylvania, Friends of the Wissahickon and other local organizations to protect and sustain the natural environment of our corner of the Wissahickon.
We hope to see you at the barn!
