Lesson Horses

Our lesson program couldn’t be successful without these wonderful 4-legged friends to patiently carry students from leadline through to advanced levels. Below are the fourteen horses and ponies currently in our program.

2003 – 15hh – Bay Quarter Horse – Gelding

Otis’ super sweet personality and comfy canter make him a lesson favorite.

Quarter Pony – Gelding

Hi, my name is Rooster, but most of my friends call me Roo. I am a Strawberry Roan Quarter pony. I love treats though it’s a good idea to put your treats in my bucket. I also love being groomed and eating grass.

2005 – Gelding

Hello, my name is Marshall. It’s a pretty serious name for a fun loving boy like myself. I am a chestnut quarter pony with a big heart. I enjoy getting to know the new faces at the barn. I love the ground time with the kids just as much as teaching them how to ride. I always appreciate when I get groomed and I love to graze on some fresh grass. Rocky and I live across from each other and have a lot in common, particularly our color!

2006 – Haflinger x – Mare – 13.2 hh

Hello! My name is Winnie. Don’t let my short legs fool you… I can run fast! I am an energetic little pony who loves treats. I also love my girlfriends Ruby and Val very much, and live up to my name whinnying for them when they are not around.

2010 – Thoroughbred – Mare

Hi, I’m Valentine, but also go by the nickname Val. I used to race on the track. I moved here from New York and I really love my new job, especially the jumping! I enjoy hanging out with the teenagers who come to see me.

2010 – Quarter Horse – Mare – 15.3 hh

Hello! My name is Ruby. I’m new here at Northwestern and I love it! I am very laid back, but sometimes I have a lot of energy and love getting treats and grazing. One of my favorite things to do is role around in the grass right after getting all clean from a bath.

Yo! I am Rocky, a spunky little chestnut pony. I like fast cars, rock-and-roll and a killer haircut. Frankie is my best dude – we came here together. I like this place, especially when a cool kid comes to take me out for a spin. I’m always down for a carrot, or two… or three!

2006 – Quarter Horse – Gelding – 15.1 hh

Hello! My name is Cole. Even though I am on the younger side, I am very lazy! The less work I have to do, the better! Anyone that has a treat for me is my new best friend. In my free time, I enjoy horsing around with my best bud Smarty.
